UCLA scientists and colleagues have identified the mechanism that triggers substorms in space; wreaks havoc on satellites, power grids and communications systems; and leads to the explosive release of energy that causes the spectacular brightening of the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights.

The lives of three Los Angeles-area kidney transplant patients were transformed by the West Coast's first three-way living-donor kidney transplant chain, made possible through the generosity of a non-directed, altruistic kidney donor from New York City.
